Compare File Type

Note:

  • When comparing files from the Proofing module, only one file type is available for selection (Cartons and Labels).
  • The available compare file types may vary based on your subscription plan.
  • You can view the supported file formats for each file type in the Select Files section of the Compare panel.

Cartons and Labels

The Cartons and Labels file type is used to compare packaging artwork such as folding cartons, mono cartons, product boxes, labels, and similar packaging components. It supports artwork in Single-Up (single unit) or Multi-Up (repeated) layouts and can contain live text, outlined text, or scanned artwork.

Use this file type when comparing two versions of packaging artwork to identify visual or textual differences during:

  • Artwork revisions
  • Design updates
  • Regulatory or content changes
  • Print proof validation
  • Print inspection

General Leaflet

The General Leaflet file type is used to compare leaflet artwork that typically appears as a folded sheet or booklet containing product information. Leaflets are commonly used in pharmaceutical packaging and often include dense regulatory text, instructions for use, and safety information.

Use this file type when comparing two versions of a leaflet to identify visual or textual differences during:

  • Leaflet revisions
  • Content or regulatory updates
  • Print inspection of printed leaflet samples

This file type supports artwork that may contain live text, outlined text, or scanned content, making it suitable for comparisons from early design stages through final printed output.

GS1 XML vs PDF

The GS1 XML vs PDF file type is used to compare GS1-standard XML data with the corresponding packaging artwork. This ensures that the printed artwork accurately reflects the product information defined in the GS1 master data.

Use this file type when verifying that the artwork aligns with GS1 compliance requirements, such as:

  • Matching product attributes between GS1 XML and artwork
  • Ensuring consistency between master data and printed packaging design

This file type is ideal for cross-checking GS1 XML data against the final artwork before production or regulatory submission.

QRD Label Word vs PDF

The QRD (Quality Review of Documents) Label Word vs PDF file type is used to compare a QRD-formatted Word document with its final PDF version. This ensures that the content from the source Word file is accurately carried over to the artwork PDF used for regulatory submission.

Use this file type when you need to confirm that:

  • No text or regulatory content is missing
  • Formatting and structure are preserved
  • The final PDF matches the approved QRD Word source

This file type is ideal for verifying content integrity during regulatory artwork preparation and submission workflows.

View Side by Side

The View Side by Side file type provides a simple manual viewing mode that displays two files next to each other without performing any automated comparison or deviation analysis. It is useful when you want to visually review or reference two files at the same time without triggering the standard comparison workflow.

Use this file type when performing:

  • Manual visual checks
  • Content reference or cross-checking
  • Non-analytical side-by-side viewing of two documents

This mode is intended for quick visual comparison only and does not generate deviation results.

US Pharma Leaflet

The US Pharma Leaflet file type is designed for comparing multi-page pharmaceutical leaflets specific to the U.S. market. These leaflets typically follow FDA formatting requirements and contain dense regulatory, clinical, and safety information.

Use this file type when reviewing U.S. pharmaceutical leaflet artwork to identify visual or textual differences during:

  • FDA-compliant leaflet revisions
  • Regulatory or safety content updates
  • Print inspection of printed leaflet samples

This file type supports both live text and scanned leaflet content, making it suitable for comparisons from draft versions through final printed output.

File Type Subsections

Note: The availability of subsections and the options within them depend on the File Type you select. For example, the Cartons and Labels file type includes all subsections, while the GS1 XML vs PDF file type displays only the File contains? subsection with a single option (GS1 XML vs PDF).

Selecting an incorrect option in a subsection may increase false positives during comparison.

Compare Mode

(Available only for the Cartons and Labels file type)

Use this section to select the layout of the artwork you want to compare.

  • Single-Up layout
    • A Single-Up layout contains one complete artwork on a page. Select this option when comparing or reviewing a single unit of packaging artwork.
  • Multi-Up layout
    • A Multi-Up layout contains multiple repeats of the same artwork on a single sheet. This format is used in printing workflows where several copies are placed together before cutting or finishing.

When these layouts are used

  • Single-Up: Artwork design, approvals, revisions, and early review stages.
  • Multi-Up: Print-ready files, press sheets, and final production outputs.

Selecting the correct layout ensures accurate comparison, especially when checking alignment, panel orientation, and repeat consistency.

File contains?

Use this section to specify the type of content in the artwork. This helps the Web Viewer apply the appropriate comparison method.

You can select from:

  • Live Text
  • Curve Text
  • Scan/Scanned Image
  • GS1 XML vs PDF (Available only for the GS1 XML vs PDF file type)
  • QRD Label Word vs PDF (Available only for the QRD Label Word vs PDF file type)
  • View Side by Side (Available only for the View Side by Side file type)

Use LLM to classify

This option enables AI-driven classification of comparison results to help interpret deviations more efficiently.

This checkbox appears only when all of the following conditions are met:

  • File Type = Cartons and Labels
  • Compare Mode = Single-Up
  • File contains? = Live text or Curve text
  • Review Options = Artwork Review

This option is displayed only when the artwork contains Live text or Curve text, as these content types support AI-based classification.

Review Options

Use this section to choose the purpose of the comparison.

Artwork Review

Use this option to compare two artwork files in PDF or AI format. It is ideal for checking design, content, layout, or regulatory updates between two versions of carton or label artwork.

Leaflet Review

Use this option to review multi-page leaflet or booklet artwork, typically used in pharmaceutical or healthcare packaging. This mode ensures that regulatory, clinical, and safety content is accurately represented across all pages.

Use this option when performing:

  • Regulatory leaflet reviews
  • Page-by-page content and layout validation
  • Compliance checks for multi-page artwork

Print Proof

Select this option when comparing:

  • An approved artwork, against
  • A print proof shared by the printing vendor (typically flattened, with live text converted to curves)

This comparison ensures that the vendor’s print-ready file does not contain unintended visual or textual changes introduced during prepress processing.

Print Inspection

Select this option when comparing:

  • The approved artwork or the print proof, against
  • A scanned printed artwork (in PDF format)

This mode is used to detect printing-related deviations such as ink spread, missing text, misalignment, or other defects introduced during the actual print process. Visual inspection is critical for this review.
